Lake Country Deck Renewal recommends a light cleaning at least once a year to improve the appearance of your deck. This will help retain the natural cedar color and prevent any surface mold and mildew from re-appearing. If you have a deck that has lots of sun and was sealed but no stain applied, the wood will turn gray from the UV light of the sun and if you have deck with lots of shade your wood may start to re-grow mold and mildew on the surface if it is not cleaned on a regular basis. A light cleaning by us will seriously reduce or eliminate mold growth. If you do not wash your deck on a regular basis dirt accumulates giving mold and mildew a natural environment to re-grow. This does not mean your 25 year sealer is not working. It simply means your deck needs a surface cleaning. This is especially true for ground level decks with little or no clearance where there is no airflow and moisture is trapped under the deck.

If your deck was stained and it has been more than 2 years it may be time to freshen up the color as our stains are designed to fade. We recommend a re-coat every 2-3 years depending on your conditions in order to maintain the best appearance and before the sealer in the stain has a chance to break down. It is much less costly to re-coat your deck when it is in good condition rather than waiting until your deck shows serious signs of wear and tear. A fresh coat of stain will replenish your decks oils and prevent the wood from drying out and checking.
